How to Download Geometry Dash — and When You Do Not Need To

"Download Geometry Dash" is one of the most searched phrases about this game, and the answer depends entirely on which version you mean. There are three, they live in different places, and only one of them costs money. There is also a fourth thing pretending to be a download that you should not touch.
The three legitimate versions
Geometry Dash Lite — free
On the App Store and Google Play, from RobTop Games. Free, ad-supported, and it contains the early official levels plus a rotating selection. This is the one to get if you are not sure yet. It is also the version that browser ports are based on, which means you can play it here with no download at all — the player on the home page is the Lite build.
Geometry Dash — paid
On Steam, the App Store and Google Play. One purchase, no subscription, no in-app currency. It has all 23 official levels, the level editor, the searchable community level database and the vaults. If you are going to put real hours into the game this is the one, and it is cheap for what it is.
Worth knowing before you buy: the purchase does not carry between platforms. Steam and mobile are separate.
The spin-offs — free
Meltdown, World and SubZero are all free from RobTop on mobile. Each is three to ten short levels. Two of the three are playable in a browser: Meltdown and SubZero. World is not — it depends on mobile-only online features, so anybody offering a browser version of it is showing you a different game.
The fourth thing
Search results for this are thick with APK mirrors, "Geometry Dash full version free download PC" pages and installers for a game that has never had a standalone PC installer outside Steam. Those files are not Geometry Dash. At best they are a wrapped copy of the free browser port; often enough they are adware; sometimes worse.
The test is simple and it always works: RobTop Games publishes on Steam, the App Store and Google Play, and nowhere else. There is no official direct download, no official APK site, no official PC installer. If a page is offering one, it is not from RobTop.
"Geometry Dash for PC" and the emulator question
A lot of "Geometry Dash Lite for PC" results are really instructions for running the Android version inside an emulator like BlueStacks. It does work. It is also a lot of setup, a large install and a noticeable input-latency penalty for a game where latency is the whole difficulty — and the paid Steam version exists specifically so you do not have to.
If you want Geometry Dash on a PC for free and right now, a browser is a better answer than an emulator: no install, no account, and lower latency than an emulated Android runtime. That is the entire reason this site exists.

Progress in any browser version lives in that browser on that device. A different machine is a different save, private windows keep nothing, and an administrator clearing site data clears it. That is the one real trade-off against downloading, and for most people trying the game out it does not matter at all.
